Mexico has been able to keep its inflation rate below double digits for the last 15 plus years. It was commonplace for the inflation rate to clip 15% throughout the 70s and 80s. Recently due to the increase in food costs around the globe, the Mexican core inflation rate has been approaching 5%. Recently the Mexican central bank raised the benchmark interest rate to 7.75% to fight these inflationary pressures. The annualized inflation rate for Mexico hit 4.95% in May.
