Ben Stein provides an overview of a variable annuity and discusses the advantages and disadvantages of this plan.  He mentions how some of the new variable annuities will guarantee your initial investment even if the value drops below your investment amount.  He suggests that they may provide investors with the comfort of not worrying about where they will get the money to survive when they can no longer work.
